About EpiPen®

What it does

EpiPen® (adrenaline) auto-injector and EpiPen®Jr (adrenaline) auto-injector contain a sterile solution of adrenaline 0.3 mg and 0.15 mg respectively.

EpiPen® (adrenaline) auto-injectors are for emergency intramuscular injection of adrenaline during anaphylactic episodes, which can occur without warning and be life threatening - they allow patients time to get to hospital where they can receive appropriate medical care. For more information see About anaphylaxis or Treatment.

Benefits of EpiPen®

The majority (96%) of at-risk patients use EpiPen® (adrenaline) auto-injector,48 the only adrenaline auto-injector with a unique swing action.

Rapid delivery of adrenaline is crucial during an anaphylactic reaction as cardiac arrest can occur within a median of 15 minutes (for venom trigger) and 30 minutes (for food trigger). The EpiPen® (adrenaline) auto-injector has been shown to deliver maximum adrenaline concentrations in 6 to 10 minutes following IM injection into the thigh.

The cartridge-based design of EpiPen® (adrenaline) auto-injector has also been shown to deliver adrenaline more efficiently than a syringe-based device in a recent study:49
