Living with a severe allergy
You should always remember the following advice:
- Always carry two EpiPen® (adrenaline) Auto-Injectors at all times. In some cases patients may need to administer a second dose of adrenaline 10 — 15 minutes after the first dose in order to reduce symptoms
- Additonally, you may experience a second or bisphasic reaction from 1 — 38 hours after your initial reaction so always ensure that you have a back-up EpiPen® (adrenaline) Auto-Injector
- Check the date of expiry regularly and make sure to register with the EpiPen® (adrenaline) Auto-Injector Expiry Alert Programme
- Always ask questions about ingredients before you eat anything — if you are not sure avoid the food
- If you suffer from asthma make sure you have the right medication and it is well under control if you have any questions regarding your asthma consult your doctor or nurse
- Make sure your workplace, school or nursery are aware of what to do should you experience an anaphylactic reaction
- Make sure you take your medication with you on holidays
- If travelling abroad either through work or holiday make sure you download a phrase sheet for the country you are visiting to allow simple translation in an emergency situation
